This is an exceptional song with formidable hit potential.
Another great song about goin' back home where you just know everything will be okay. Mike wrote this song with a specific guitar part in mind to give that campfire sorta feel. The song kicks off with nothing more than two acoustic guitars strumming some really memorable licks before Mike opens up with the first of the vocals which is the title of the song.
"Goin' back to Texas
I've been away too long
Don't know how I found myself so far away from home
I've seen too much of the world
And the world's seen enough of me . . . ."
"Goin' Back to Texas" fits the spirit of Texas dancehalls and honkytonks to a T. It's genuine and original Texas Country born in Southeast Texas and recorded there as well. There's nothing like coming back home to all the familiar faces of family and friends when you've been out on the road for a really long time. And no matter how long you've been gone, you know that your family misses you and longs to see you. So, "Goin' Back to Texas" is a homecoming tune with a happy ending. For the person in the song, nothing could ever be better than getting back to the "Lone Star State where everyone I meet's a friend."
