"Texas Blue Sky" is 100% Grade A Cowboy Music!  A song about the rediscovery of freedom and returning to a much more peaceful and slower time on the back of a pony.  Many people refer to this tune as "The Pony Song" and Mike doesn't have a problem with that at all.  In fact, he knows the tune by both titles and thinks "The Pony Song" is a great nickname for "Texas Blue Sky."

"Texas Blue Sky" was the third song Mike & Sammy ever recorded together and the first at the Willow Street Studio.  It was the song that actually convinced Mike & Sammy to record the album, "Texas in the Man."

This songs grabs you by the heart from the first riff of those big Texas-style electric guitars, reminding listeners of great bands like the Eagles, the Allman Brothers or the Marshall Tucker Band.  It's big and it's loud but it's absolutely Texas through and through.  "I lit out across the prarie, far away from glass and steel.  Out past the four-lane highway, up into the Texas Hills."

This song is all about the freedom that can only be found in getting away from the hustle and bustle of our modern-day world.  It's about returning to the way things used to be and redefining who we are with the simple freedoms provided to us by our forefathers.  Nothing can be better than a clear sky, a campfire, and a good horse when it comes to breaking away from the world and finding some quiet time.

When the boys finished this demo, after completing "Runnin' Outa' Time" and "End of Forever" which will be heard on Mike's forthcoming "Urban Heaven" album, "Texas in the Man" began to take clear form even though, at this point, many of the songs that would be recorded for the album still weren't even written.  "Texas Blue Sky" was such a powerful tune that it forced Mike & Sammy onward and they had a great time doing so.  Hundreds of ideas came and went, some stuck and some got laid aside for future albums but "Texas Blue Sky" was definitely the song that really got the ball rolling.  And it hasn't stopped rolling yet!"
